BGI ReporterMapper

BGI ReporterMapper is a lean geographic reporter software tool which can mark points, routes and areas on maps and aerial images and link them to further content such as photographs. This can happen via a smart phone or a laptop live from for example a sport event.

The solution is entirely based on Microsoft components such as Microsoft’s Bing Maps for Enterprise map service (formerly MS Virtual Earth, Live Maps), WinMobile and .NET technology.

The clear user interface of the ReporterMapper provides a quick and easy way to upload information, photographs or videos and offers the opportunity to link these to a detailed article.

The BGI ReporterMapper is already being used by Europe’s largest sports magazine. SportBild.de (more than 4 million visits/month) can thus link red-hot news, exclusive background reports, interviews with top athletes for example at the Olympics 2010 in Vancouver or the live ticker for all important sports events to Microsoft Bing Maps.

BGI ReporterMapper is the ideal equipment for modern live reporting for the web and can thus open new and fascinating possibilities. It is not only of interest for sports reporters. Travel reports, traffic reports and weather forecasts can also be easily created with ReporterMapper.
A further innovative module, the BGI RSS Mapper, gives the readers the opportunity to read their news by region – simply via their location on a map.

The program is an add-on for Microsoft Bing Maps (formerly MS Visual Earth, Live Maps) and is entirely based on Microsoft components such as WinMobile and .NET technology.

Starting signal for the Olympics

The BGI ReporterMapper – new standards in reporting

The innovative software by BGI Solutions provided the reporters from the German television and radio station ARD as well as the newspaper SportBild with a mapping visualization of events in real time. Microsoft Bing Maps could thus be adapted and contents could be provided online to sports fanatics in a matter of seconds.

Biathletes, bobsleigh riders, ice speed skaters: The German team was counted among the odds-on favourites at the Olympic Games. All of Germany was crossing their fingers. Whether it was gold, silver or bronze – the ReporterMapper by BGI Solutions delivered the good news to the fans on a map clearly and in the shortest possible time.

Aside from the current news reporting, information about the stadiums, ski jumps, routes and points of interest could be presented to the viewer.

Hot on the Heels of the MDR with GPS

With the aid of BGI ReporterMapper a map visualization in real time of the path of the MDR “Mann-O-Mann” tour presented by MDR 1 Radio Sachsen-Anhalt and MDR “Sachsen-Anhalt heute” was provided.

MDR presenter Andreas Mann and his team visited all 851 municipalities of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, and all web users could participate in real time.

No matter where the „Mann-O-Mann“ vehicle was located – be it at a kindergarten, a bakery or a market square – it transmitted a GPS signal to the MDR website every 100 seconds. With the aid of this geo tracking, anyone could follow Andreas Manns path through Saxony-Anhalt on a map.

BGI Solutions had developed a reporter solution for this purpose, consisting of BGI ReporterMap and GPS Tracking with a Standard WinMobile Smartphone with GPS and camera.

This combination of BGI ReporterMap and GPS Tracking with Smartphone is the ideal equipment for modern live web journalism. Be it sports events, travel tours or audience reports – this easy to use BGI toolset offers reporters new and fascinating possibilities for their coverage.
