Furthermore, postal areas (PLZ5, PLZ3, PLZ2) and administrative borders (states, regions, municipalities) are already integrated and can be used for map images, data assignment and sales areas.

Aside from the map material, you can also use up to 70 demographic variables such as:

  • Area size
  • Population
  • Net income of private households
  • Population of working age
  • Students, pensioners, unemployed
  • Private household hobbies (high tech, sports cars,...)

These are coded by country, state, district, city region, postal area and survey area. The coding criteria vary from country to country. For the following countries you can use country specific demographic variables on different administrative levels:

  • Germany
  • France
  • United Kingdom
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Austria
  • Switzerland
  • Spain

For all other countries, there is still a great range of demographic data available on the national level.

Microsoft MapPoint can be integrated seamlessly into the world of Microsoft Office products. Simply insert your maps via the clipboard into Microsoft PowerPoint or Microsoft Word. Edit, visualise and analyse your data in Microsoft Excel. Link or import data from Excel, Access or SQL Server with Microsoft MapPoint and update them dynamically. Microsoft MapPoint can be connected to almost every database system (SQL Server, Orade, DB2, Access etc.), CRM (Microsoft Dynamics CRM, ACT!, SAGE etc.).

Catchment areas – Travel time zones, areas and radii

If you would like to know which parameters exist in the immediate surroundings, you can create radii, travel time zones and individual areas and export the content of the data to Microsoft Excel and then edit it further.

Often, however, there are natural borders such as lakes, rivers, mountains, which render this evaluation too imprecise. If you are after more precise evaluations, create travel time zones.

Routing - higher efficiency via optimized route planning

From A to B via C with a break in D? No problem at all if you are using the routing functions of Microsoft MapPoint. Define start and finish time, breaks and customer calls and optimize your routes. Avoid side trips and apply the work load process – all with MapPoint.

Plan your time and costs. Use the optimizing functions offered by Microsoft MapPoint.

Microsoft Office integration – make use of synergies!

You import data from Excel, visualise and analyse it with MapPoint, write reports with Word and save the data into your databases. Use the strengths of the individual programs – with MapPoint.

Exportig data

You would like to export data and use it in other programs? No problem at all. It only takes a few steps to export your data.

  • Simply draw a diagram over the relevant area, e.g. a catchment area (circle)
  • Then mark the area
  • Activate the context menu with the right mouse button (alternatively, open the data in the menu and then select export to Excel
  • Select export to Excel

Now all your data contained in the circle is exported.

Data import - Geocoding

You have address data or other spatial data. Present your data on maps. Use the geocoding function in MapPoint 2010. You only need a table with secondary spatial information such as the post code, city, state or street. The smaller the spatial level, the greater the geocoding accuracy. You can geocode right down to the street number if the data is available for the desired area. MapPoint 2010 compares your data table to the internal data and positions the object in the right place.

You can import data from a wide range of applications such as:

  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Access
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Microsoft AutoRoute Express
  • ODBC
  • OLEDB
  • Text data (text, Ascii, csv)

Simply use the data import assistant or the data connection assistant. The latter lets you dynamically update your data. If the source data changes, you can transfer these changes straight into MapPoint. This eliminates constant reimporting – yet your data stays up to date.
